It is located approximately 5 kilometers from the city center. The airport is named after Iskandar, an Indonesian Air Force officer and guerilla fighter from Central Kalimantan. Iskandar Airport serves as the primary gateway to Pangkalan Bun and the nearby Tanjung Puting National Park, a renowned destination for orangutan conservation.
