Seaplane Bases
Water-based airstrips for floatplanes and amphibious aircraft.
Seaplane bases are water-based facilities where floatplanes and amphibious aircraft operate from the surface of a lake, river, bay, or coastal inlet. They are especially common in regions where water is more accessible than buildable land — including the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, coastal British Columbia, Scandinavia, and Southeast Asia. Many seaplane bases serve as the only practical air link to remote fishing lodges, island communities, and wilderness areas that cannot support conventional runways. In some regions, scheduled seaplane services carry commuters and tourists between city waterfronts and nearby islands.
