Essendon Fields Airport is a 305 ha public airport serving scheduled commercial, corporate-jet, charter and general aviation flights. Located in the north western suburb of Essendon Fields, it is Melbourne's second largest airport and the closest to the city's centre. From its construction in 1921 until 1970 it served as Melbourne's main airport, but was replaced by Tullamarine Airport.
